A TRIPLE TOUR AT LA CONCIERGERIE

 In > art culture design

The first presentation in Paris of a major ensemble of works from the Pinault collection, its purpose is to explore the question of imprisonment, a theme that resonates within the imposing frame of the Conciergerie (the first royal palace in the French capital, it was used as a prison during the French Revolution and Marie-Antoinette was famously guillotined there!) The exhibition begins with Michelangelo Pistoletto’s historic work La Gabbia (The Cage) and includes 50 works including video installations, paintings, sculptures, photographs, by 22 different artists which explore forms of imprisonment – criminal confinement, psychological confinement… – and which for the most part have never been exhibited before. The exhibition includes Damien Hirst’s record-making piece ‘The Fragile Truth’ medicine cabinet, which sold for more than a million pounds at Sotheby’s back in 2004, or Bill Viola’s powerful video series Hall of Whispers (1995).
Until 6 Jan. Open daily, 9.30am-6pm. 8.50€
