ART: Jim Lambie/ Sadie Coles HQ at Galerie Patrick Seguin

London supergallery Sadie Coles HQ (Coles has been a London institution since the mid 90s, and shows Richard Prince, Matthew Barney and a host of high-end Brits, including a generous crop of the (now not so) Young British Artists, many of whom she ushered onto the international scene) has moved in to Galerie Patrick Seguin for a month. The not-to-be-missed show opened last week during the FIAC, and is the first Paris exhibition of genius Scottish artist Jim Lambie. His latest works involve a virtuoso conjuring of shape and colour, ranging from minimalist blocks of compressed metal to dog-eared aluminium sheets in a myriad of colours. Lambie’s works combine to form elaborate super-installations whose different elements interact with quasi musical energy. Indeed, he has compared the different elements of his art to jazz ensemble, with the baseline represented by his expansive, vinyl tape floors, Zobop. These site specific installations trace the contours of their architectural settings to create dazzling linear patterns, mixing together the influences of Op-Art and abstraction.
