ART: Jonathan Monk at Yvon Lambert
For this new show, tongue-in-cheek Berlin-based conceptual artist Jonathan Monk presents 23 monochrome paintings, which were installed by a circus troop composed of two acrobats, three juggler, three clowns and two mimes following a precise choreographed process dictated by the artist. But neither the circus performance nor the paintings are visible; instead 23 photographs in the first room of the gallery document the installation. Monk describes this presentation as an artwork in itself: ‘ the paintings await to be activated. the paintings become what they are during the days before the exhibition is made public. they are there to become something. a magical energy will be added by the people who are there to perform the magical act’. A newspaper that explains the origin of the artist’s project was distributed during the opening of the show.
Until 8 Apr. Tue-Sat, 10am-7pm.
