ART: The Caillebotte Brothers at the Musée Jacquemart-André

 In Events

The opulent Musée Jacquemart-André is showing The Caillebotte Brothers’ Private World, an exhibition dedicated to the intertwining of Impressionism and photography. Gustave Caillebotte is renowned for his paintings of Paris that captured the new urban environment that was emerging in the city at the end of the 19th century. His brother Martial has, until recently, been relatively unknown. Martial’s photographs reveal a great awareness of the subjects represented in the paintings of his brother: the views of  Haussmann’s Paris, the sailing boats, the gardens and the river banks. This exhibition compares Martial’s photographs directly with Gustave’s works, hanging 35 paintings alongside 150 photographs, offering a rare insight into this period of major urban and technological transformation so often represented by Impressionist artists.
Until 11 July.
Musée Jacquemart-André, 158 bd Haussmann, 8th.
