ARRRGH! MONSTRES DE MODE AT LA GAÎTÉ LYRIQUE

 In > art culture design

Open to the public from today, Arrrgh! presents the work of 55 contemporary fashion designers who have incorporated monstrous forms into their collections. Curated by the Greek collective ATOPOS Contemporary Visual Culture, it draws inspiration from digitalscapes like animation, video games, and graphic design. Walter Van Beirendonck, Cassette Playa, Maison Martin Margiela, Charlie Le Mindu, Rick Owens, Andrea Crews and more have created over 80 creatures for an exposition that works to challenge clothing’s conventional role in society. Arrrgh! upends our previous notions of  beauty and identity, as well as the language of contemporary fashion, by modeling clothing that incorporates mutations and abnormalities, both subtle and stark. And a short video by Bart Hess, in which he gives the viewer a 360° visual experience, allows us to imagine these monsters when brought to life.
Until 7 Apr. 2-8pm (6pm Sun). Closed Mon.
