BARON VON FANCY AT COLETTE

In > art culture design, > shopping

Inspired by the hand-painted advertising of his youth, New York artist and designer Baron Von Fancy‘s simple, but eye-catching show ‘A Thing Called Love’ works to defy the ubiquitous, commercial influences of today through a series of retro sign pieces. ‘Nothing is hand-painted anymore; instead computer generated generic fonts are everywhere. National and international chain stores and restaurants have replaced the local establishments and with them has come monotonous “branding”,’  Von Fancy says. By combining  flat, black typography with stark, neon touches, Von Fancy has created a distinct medium to translate his timeless messages of disillusionment, romance, and nostalgia.
