Daniel Buren for Monumenta 2012

 In > art culture design

Opening on Thursday is the 2012 edition of Monumenta. Every year an internationally-renowned contemporary artist is invited to produce a monumental, site-specific work for the Grand Palais’ vast nave. ‘Abstract minimalist’ Daniel Buren, one of France’s greatest living artists, known for his trademark use of vertical stripes, will be rising to this challenge for the fifth edition. Visitors will be plunged into a Grand Palais that has been metamorphosed. Spectators will become active participants in the unveiling and creation of a brand new artwork and space. This creation will be true to the rigorous approach of this renowned artist whose careful use of materials creates a maximum effect. Daniel Buren’s subtle “visual tools” will reveal the space’s hidden dimensions, invisible potential, past and present…
Thu 10 May-Thu 21 June.
