ROBERT ADAMS AT THE JEU DE PAUME

 In > art culture design

Robert Adams’ travelling retrospective The Place We Live has arrived in Paris. Adams started his artistic career in the early 60s with still-lifes of nature and architecture, and launched a landscape photography movement known as “The New Topographics.” For nearly five decades, he has documented the rapid urbanisation of the western American states Colorado, California and Oregon with his bleak black-and-white photographs. The exhibition traces Adams’s deep engagement with the geography of the American West, weaving together various aspects of over four decades of work into a cohesive, epic narrative of the American experience. Taken as a whole, the exhibition reminds the viewer to consider the privilege of the place we were given and the obligations of citizenship.
