AZZEDINE ALAIA AT THE PALAIS GALLIERA
After 4 years of renovations, the city’s premier fashion and history museum reopened on Saturday with a retrospective devoted to the work of the celebrated Paris based couturier Azzedine Alaïa. In its new incarnation, the museum has revived its late 19th century interiors, sporting Pompeiian red walls and black woodwork. In this dramatic décor, seventy exceptional creations by Alaia, a veritable sculptor of the female form, are at once embodied and disembodied in an understated but efficient scenography by French designer Martin Szekely. The exhibition continues across the road at the Musée d’Art Moderne with a small number of pieces displayed in dialogue with art works by Matisse and Daniel Buren.
Until 26 Jan 2014. 10am-6pm (9pm Thu). Closed Mon. 8€/ 6€.
