CÉLINE MONTAIGNE
The radical, no-frills 4-year ‘pop-up’ on Rue François 1er has now closed and Phoebe Philo has moved onto luxe neighbouring strip Avenue Montaigne. This much bigger store is spread over two floors and is a new version of Céline’s first London boutique, which just opened in March. Both spaces have been designed by Philo herself in collaboration with Danish artist and ‘social designer’ FOS, aka Thomas Poulsen (who is represented by Philo’s gallerist husband Max Wigram btw) and mix noble materials – such as richly coloured marble, oak, luxurious carpets, and brass details – with raw, industrial materials, such as concrete or laquered particle board. There’s lots of plants in odd pots too. Rich settings for Philo’s always innovative ready-to-wear, leather goods, footwear, eyewear and costume jewelry collections.
