Centre Pompidou-Metz opens today

 In > art culture design

The provincial French town of Metz, 1.5 hours east of Paris on the TGV, is France’s latest art destination thanks to the opening of a ‘branch’ of Paris’s Pompidou Centre, marking the first decentralisation of a French public cultural institution. Like its Paris sibling, the Centre Pompidou-Metz is dedicated to 20th- and 21st-century art, displaying works culled from the Pompidou Centre’s collection. And until 16 May, you can visit the museum’s inaugural show Chefs-dœuvre? for free, as well as discover the incredible new 10,700 m2 building designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban with Jean de Gastines, and with Ingo Maurer as lighting designer. The architecture is as exciting as the art inside it, flaunting a roof inspired by a woven bamboo chinese hat.  SM

More often than not I don’t comment on a person’s blog, but I would just like to mention that this post has compelled me to do so! Thank you for your insightful post.
