Chalet Society presents The Museum of Everything
Marc-Olivier Wahler, the former (Swiss) director of the Palais de Tokyo, launches his new art project Chalet Society next week with this presentation of the world’s only travelling museum for undiscovered, unintentional and untrained artists from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The Museum of Everything arrives in Paris with Exhibition #1.1, an epic journey of more than 500 self-taught artworks and objects, curated within the narrow corridors and silent classrooms of a 1,000m2 former Catholic seminary in the heart of St Germain. An alternative history of modern and contemporary art, Exhibition #1.1 embraces artists who function without art education, theory or society. Highlights include the panoramic adult fairytale of Chicago janitor Henry Darger, the towering spirit scrolls of Chinese factory worker Guo Fengyi, the mystic constructions of French miniature architect ACM and the dense tramways of Dutch self-appointed naive Willem van Genk.
Until 31 Mar.
