Out tomorrow is Quentin Tarantino’s latest directorial effort, a sort of companion piece to his previous film Inglourious Bastards. Another hymn to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Vengeance,” you can expect 2 hours and 45 minutes of mayhem dealing with America’s slave trading history. A ferocious riposte to Gone With the Wind, it is hyper violent, spectacular, and thrilling, and, of course, inspired by Asian martial arts movies, spaghetti westerns, and blaxploitation flicks. It stars Jamie Foxx as Django and Christoph Waltz as his unlikely ally, a German bounty hunter with whom he takes off on a mission to free Django’s wife Broomhilda from the clutches of the ruthless plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).
