EDGAR
Behind Montorgueil, hidden inside the labyrinthine Sentier textiles district, is this smart new boutique hotel and restaurant. The first thing you come across is the great terrace overlooking a quiet square, which will be a hot new summer rendez-vous, (especially during vermouth happy hour, 6-8pm with Americanos, Campari Spritz or Negroni at 4.50-5€!) Inside is a comfortable and spacious ground-floor dining room and bar decorated with a 50s vibe, with rich duck egg blue walls, brass details and vintage furniture. The contemporary French menu from chef Xavier Thiéry (Le Petit Cheval de Manège) is short and to-the-point and includes a generous dish of the day at 12€. It’s also strong on fish and seafood, and you can choose from the day’s catch – oysters, calamari, clams… – on display in the evening. Upstairs are 13 eccentric, individually decorated rooms – from ‘La Chambre Perchée’ pictured, to ‘In The Mood for Love’ – costing between 185€ and 245€ per night.
