GEORGES BRAQUE RETROSPECTIVE AT GRAND PALAIS

 In > art culture design

One of the fathers of the Cubist movement alongside Picasso, Georges Braque (1882-1963) left an indelible mark on the landscape of modern art. A painter, engraver and sculptor, he initially became one of the avant-garde figures of the early 20th century by pioneering Cubism and inventing collage. He later refocused his work on the systematic exploration of technique in still life and landscape series, making him the quintessential French painter, heir to Corot and Chardin and custodian of the Classical tradition. For the first time in 40 years, over 200 works from collections around the globe are reunited in an ambitious retrospective that puts his paintings into perspective with the music, literature and art scene of his era. Iconic pieces such as Le Port de l’Estaque, Violon et Pipe and L’oiseau noir et l’oiseau blanc are now on display at the Grand Palais, amongst many others.
Until 6 Jan 2014.
