Horror Picture Tea

 In > eat & coffee
A totally out-there new spot in Paris, mixing cakes and tattoos, pleasure and pain, on the chichi Rue St Honoré?! Too good (weird) to be true. This new generation patisserie with a cellar tattoo parlour and a rock attitude, set up by cool Paris collective Elegangz, is now open and serving tea.
Horror Picture Tea, 95 rue Saint Honoré, 1st. Tue-Wed, 2.30-7pm; Thu-Sat, 2.30-7pm, 10pm-2am.

I stopped by this week. It’s just a bistro that added some skull wallpaper. They had no menus, no pastries (at least on display), and the old bistro menu is still posted outside. Yes, they do tattoos downstairs, but either they opening VERY slowly or there’s nothing to see here.

I went yesterday. It is a nice idea, but the experience didn’t really tally with the glossy images and breathless reviews that are all over the internet.

The worst part was the woeful customer service which crossed the line into rudeness. I’m all for a bit of waiterly arrogance but the girl who served us was just plain unfriendly. They need to sort it if the idea is going to work.

A dodgy stereo was pumping out the first Stokes album, ‘Is This It?’. Exactly the question I was asking myself as I walked out the door on my way to somewhere better.
