LAZARE
Eric Fréchon, head chef of the 3-Michelin-starred kitchens of the Parisian palace hotel Le Bristol, and consultant on the menu at the lovely Mini Palais, has just opened this new spot inside the overhauled Saint Lazare station. Open every day from 7.30am to midnight, the place combines a fairly formal restaurant, a bar, a lounge area and communal “table d’hôte” section. The place’s two menus, for the bar and the restaurant, demonstrate a predictable commitment to quality, but also to an unpretentious French tradition familiar to bustling train stations. The weekly roster of dishes of the day (18€) include calf’s liver roasted in aged vinegar (Tuesday) and Toulouse sausage and mash (Thursday). Or you can go à la carte with the veal rib steak for 39€. From the bar you can pick up a ham and butter baguette (7.50€), or charcuterie or cheese platters to accompany your apéritif. And there’s Parisian café standards for breakfast (croissant, pain au chocolat or tartine, 3.50€). It’s your new, gourmet all-day option in the gastronomic wasteland around the department store shopping zone.
Open daily, 7.30am-midnight.
