Mois de la Photo + OFF

 In > art culture design

Opening tomorrow 1 Nov is the biannual, month-long, city-wide celebration of photography le Mois de la Photo. Organised by the Maison Européene de la Photo, three wonderfully intelligent and diverse curators define three broad themes this year: ‘Small is Beautiful’ from Agnès de Gouvion Saint-Cyr, ‘France and Francophone photography since 1955‘ from Leonor Nurisdany and ‘Enchanted Reality‘ from Stéphane Wargnier. Nearly 80 exhibitions across both private galleries and museums showcase some of the world’s greatest photography talents as well as emerging artists. Some shows to watch out for: Hannah Villiger and Body Language: Works from the Fotomuseum Winterthur at the Centre Culturel Suisse; Manuel Álvarez Bravo at the Jeu de Paume; Claude Nori and Photography in France 1920-2000 the Maison Européene de la Photo; Sarah Moon, Bernard Plossu, Masao Yamamoto at the Galerie Camera Obscura; Dıstances dıfférentes at the Institut Suedois… Running in parallel and with a different vision, the fringe festival Mois de la Photo – OFF presents 10 itineraries and about 90 exhibitions throughout Paris. (The Off is inaugurated tonight, 6-9.30pm at the Galerie Taïss with an exhibition ‘Fast Rats’ from Marc Philbert.)
