Paris Design Week

Organised by the Paris interiors trade fair Maison&Objet (9-13 Sep) comes the first edition of Paris Design Week, opening next Monday. Emulating the ‘design week’ model already existing in many other cities, you  can expect a week celebrating design – furniture, interiors, gastronomy – via the city’s major institutions, shops and showrooms. The event is organised around six neighbourhood itineraries: Austerlitz, Bastille/ République, Champs-Elysées/ Trocadéro, Les Halles/ Marais, Madeleine/ Opéra, and St Germain; consult them here. A few highlights include: Suntory Whisky cocktail party at Merci (7pm, Mon 12); a ‘design cocktail’ at the Table de 8, the restaurant of the new hotel Maison Champs-Elysées, decorated by Maison Martin Margiela (5-8pm, Tue 13-Sun 18); champagne at L’Eclaireur Sévigné (5-9pm, Tue 13); an encounter with the Paris based New Zealand designer Roderick Fry at Rose Bakery Culture inside the Maison Rouge (4-7pm, Wed 14, Thu 15, Fri 16) (Rose Bakery are also preparing a special take-away lunch box every day during the event); Artists Mimi Oka and Doug Fitch sign their book “Festins Orphiques” (Editions de l’Epure) at La Cocotte (6-8pm, Fri 16)… Check out the daily programme of events here.
