SARAH MOON
The cult French photographer turns her dreamy gaze on the timeless world of Paris’ natural history museum and its “mineral, plant and animal life.” The exhibition Alchimies is composed of about 100 images on the theme of nature including a new series produced last summer of the museum’s trees, flowers and animals – “real or fake, living or dead” – as well as a bird series dating from 2000, plus other works including two short films sourced from Moon’s private collection. A quotation from the poem Burnt Norton by T.S. Eliot featured in the exhibition sets the tone, “Or say that the end precedes the beginning, and the end and the beginning were always there before the beginning and after the end, and all is always now.”
