SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK

One of 2012’s best ‘feel-good’ films Silver Linings Playbook (Happiness Therapy in France) hit French theaters yesterday. Bradley Cooper (The Words) stars as Pat Solitano, a recently-released mental patient who suffers from a bipolar disorder, alongside Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), playing Tiffany Maxwell, a troubled young widow. The film centers around Pat and Tiffany’s struggles as they work to piece their lives back together through their budding relationship, their family, and the art of dance! Directed by David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees) and nominated for a slew of Academy Awards, this uplifting film portrays the state of mental health in America in a way that’s neither cheesy nor cynical. Also released this week is Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated historical drama Lincoln. Set during the American Civil War, and starring Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) as Abraham Lincoln, this film turns the spotlight on a pivotal point in American history, when the nation needed to make a crucial decision on slavery. Seven Psychopaths, a black comedy written and directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges), is also worth checking out.
