GIGS: The Whitest Boy Alive
Erlend Oye is the prodigiously talented instigator of this group, also known for being one half of the Kings of Convenience. Keeping the flame lit for ‘soft power’ music as per his former group, the Norwegian has teamed up with German backing and relocated from his native Oslo to Berlin (where else?). I’m tempted to call this ‘Nerd Rock’ – so I will. Why? Because Erlend Oye has a way of writing and singing his lyrics as if he were composing them line by line without any correlation between the phrases. The music is firmly in the minimalist camp, with the emphasis on a couple of synthesisers making up the bulk of the sound. CG
