GIGS: Yodelice
Stubbled and bowler-hatted singer (resembling Alex in ‘A Clockwork Orange’) Maxim Nucci fronts Yodelice, a bashful French outfit based on breathy songs sung in perfect English. The group brought out début album Tree of Life earlier this year, and singles ‘Alone’ and ‘Sunday with a Flu’, with the latter’s references to burnt toast and missed buses, is the Kinks bis. In fact one could call them the most English group ever to come out of France, but this time the hype is justified. CG
