1000°C by Laurent Bochet at Deyrolle

On 1 Feb last year the famous cabinet of curiosities Deyrolle, around since 1831, was partly destroyed by a terrible fire. In the aftermath, the photographer Laurent Bochet was on the scene documenting the tragedy. You can see a selection of his extraordinary photos now till 1 Dec at Deyrolle, and at the end of the month Assouline will publish a luxury edition entitled 1000°C (the temperature at which flamingos burn, apparently).

Les animaux carbonisés et paisibles m’ont rappelé les vestiges inestimables d’une civilisation disparue qui nous seraient parvenus miraculeusement. Et dans un mélange de noirceur extrême et de beauté étrange, les boiseries calcinées étaient devenues leur sarcophage. » Laurent Bochet
