JOEL MEYEROWITZ AT LA MEP

 In > art culture design

A pioneer of colour photography, Joel Meyerowitz has seen and shot it all in his extensive, 50-year career. This retrospective at La Maison Européenne de la Photographie takes a long look at this prolific output, including much of his famous work from the 1960s and 70s as well as his earlier, black-and-white efforts. His forays into format photography are also featured, and offer a compelling juxtaposition between his 35mm, and larger, 20×25 Deardoff photography. A New Yorker for much of his life, Meyerowitz captured such “decisive moments” as the drastic events of September 11th, 2001 as well as more subtle aspects of the city’s character, usually placing a special focus on interactions between the urban landscape and natural light. Many have marveled at Meyerowitz’s work, and this expo succeeds in showing you why.
Until 7 April. 11am-8pm. Closed Mon, Tue.
