'Picaflor' by Kris van Assche at the Galerie des Galeries
For the third installment of their annual Hyères Encore show, which exports to Paris fragments of the Hyères international fashion and photography festival, the Galerie des Galeries teamed up with last year’s jury president, Kris Van Assche. Designer of an eponymous brand and head of Dior Homme, Assche has here created cool metallic sculptures that look like futuristic flowers crossed with old-school Hollywood lighting fixtures. When you peer inside each flower features a movie or series of photographs : check out Mauricio Nardi’s Hommage à l’Atelier Dior for example. A series of photographic portraits of grey-hued paintings of the models from Van Assche’s summer 2010 catwalk show on the far wall are courtesy of American artist Matt Saunders. SM
