ART: Louise Bourgeois at the Maison de Balzac

 In Events

‘I’m working on a show about Eugénie Grandet for the Maison de Balzac in Paris, opening next November. I love that story. It could be the story of my life’, confided Louise Bourgeois to London’s Guardian in September 2009. Six months before the show opened, the artist passed away, but this exceptional show is just as she wanted it. Inspired by Balzac’s novel, Bourgeois produced 22 new works in homage to her literary alter-ego, which are displayed around Balzac’s former home, a uniquely intimate environment for Bourgeois’ work, which we are used to seeing hung in the world’s most important museums and private galleries. These, her last works are for the most part delicate embroidered pieces, conjuring the passing of time, solitude and silence.
Until 6 Feb 2011.
