AZZEDINE ALAIA
Maintaining the same intimate feel as his Rue de Moussy HQ in the Marais (which remains open, btw), Azzedine Alaïa’s new maison occupies a grand 18th-century mansion inside the “golden triangle” fashion nexus off the Champs-Elysées. With no shop window, and decorated in a minimal, contemporary style, the 3 story-space displays its wares like art in a gallery. Ground floor is accessories – bags and shoes – then climb the marble stairs to ready-to-wear on the 2nd and 3rd floors, with the more red-carpet numbers on the upper floor. Outside in the courtyard is a sitting area below a vertical garden by Patrick Blanc. (And for more Alaïa inspiration, don’t miss the retrospective currently showing at the Palais Galliera.)
