'BORN FREE' new clip from Romain Gavras for M.I.A.

Two years after his controversial clip for Justice, ‘Stress’, French director Romain Gavras explores similar, violent, territory with a new clip for the first single from brilliant UK artist M.I.A‘s new album. Gavras illustrates MIA’s hardcore electro track (whose power, btw, comes from heavy samples of Suicide’s brilliant 1977 track ‘Ghost Rider’) with a 9 minute dystopian tale about a ginger-haired genocide in the US, which apart from scenes of exploding red-haired children, includes other shocking scenes such as fat people having sex or old people smoking crack. As with the ‘Stress’ clip, the music becomes a soundtrack to a mini-film, with no appearance from the musicians. Gavras is currently shooting his first feature Notre jour viendra, a road-movie across the UK starring Vincent Cassel and out next September.
