Festival de Cannes

Today marks the start of the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival. The official selection of 22 films will be judged by jury president Nanni Moretti and a jury whose members include Diane Kruger, Ewan McGregor and… Jean-Paul Gaultier. The winner of the Palme d’Or will be announced on 27 May. Two films premiering at Cannes and hitting screens nationally as of today are French director Jacques Audiard’s highly anticipated De Rouille et d’Os (Rust & Bone) and Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Like last year’s Midnight in Paris, an American film again opens the festival. Moonrise Kingdom is about two twelve-year-olds who fall in love and decide to fun away together while they spend their summer on a New England island during the 60s. The all-star cast includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. Let’s see how Europeans react to Anderson’s quirky humour. (AP)
Until 27 May.
