JIM SHAW AT THE CHALET SOCIETY

 In > art culture design

After the ‘outsider’ artists of the Museum of Everything, Marc-Olivier Wahler’s Chalet Society returns with this carte-blanche to LA artist Jim Shaw. A compulsive collector, constantly on the hunt for pop culture pieces in thrift stores or on the internet, Shaw’s work is full of elements of American popular culture. Here, Shaw is exhibiting his incredible collection of ‘didactic art’ that accounts for his main source of inspiration. Secret societies, far-fetched orders and fraternities, evangelical and fundamentalist movements, New Age spiritualists, Scientologists, Mormons, Freemasons, ultraconservatives and all kinds of conspirators, encyclopaedias for children and even Dr. Netter’s famous medical illustrations, The Hidden World is an overflowing and illuminated world that recycles the myths and beliefs of America. (And pick up some original Christmas gifts in the downstairs atelier and souvenir shop!) Closing soon.
Until Sun 26 Jan. Noon-8pm. Closed Mon, Tue, Wed.
14 boulevard Raspail, 7th. www.facebook.com/ChaletSociety
