Thomas Hirschhorn 'Equality Float' at La Douane

 In > art culture design

Opening today at Chantal Crousel’s second space La Douane is this installation by Thomas Hirschhorn, ‘Equality Float’. Currently representing Switzerland at the Venice Biennale, Hirschhorn presents here a carnival float measuring 21 metres long by 6 meters wide, produced for and presented at MACRO, Vigo in 2008. Exhibited for the first time in France, ‘Equality Float’ is an allegory of the community, highlighting both its ills and their remedies; a reflection on the notions of equality / inequality. It is a theme that the artist explores through the interaction of opposites, of political and philosophical essays (Spinoza, Deleuze, Bataille, Gramsci).
Until 25 Nov. Mon-Fri, 11am-7pm. By appointment.
11F rue Léon Jouhaux, Escalier G, 3rd floor, 10th. 01.42.01.64.97. www.crousel.com
