East Side Burger
Only open since Monday and already with long queues at lunch and nearly 4,000 fans on Facebook. The novel, for Paris, concept – cheap vegetarian / vegan junk food – clearly appeals. The menu proposes 2 different tofu burgers per day (5.95€) from amongst 4 custom recipes, plus quiches (3€) or hot dogs (3.55€), served with fries or coleslaw (2.50€), and a range of American style desserts (muffins, cheesecake…). There’s even organic cheese nuggets! It’s the first foray for the tattooed owners, who look like they have a taste not just for junk food but also for the Seattle grunge scene of the 90s, into the food business, and frankly it shows. By their wide-eyed enthusiasm, but also by how long it takes to get served as they prepare each burger from start to finish, before moving on to the next (a lesson from Big Fernand would do them good). The place is not only vegetarian, but also committed to organic and ecological principles.
