Michel Gondry's 'The We & The I' out today
Selected for the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes this year, and promptly slammed by the press, the latest offering from Gondry is the result of a project he led with a bunch of teenagers in a community centre in the Bronx. You certainly get the feeling the script was written by non-professionals, a “heartfelt and comical story of the final bus ride home for a group of young high school students and graduates. As kids depart the bus for the last time, we get to learn about these graduates as they step into the world – their love, their conflicts, their despair and their hopes.” An interesting and worthy but finally flawed exercise.
