Jean-François Piège’s empire expands with this elegant cake outpost of his Thoumieux bistro, fine-dining restaurant and hotel. As with the other, neighbouring, establishments Gâteaux Thoumieux has been decorated by the wonderful India Mahdavi, in delicate mint tones with marble and an interesting wicker sculpture of the Thoumieux logo (designed by M/M Paris) that holds the breads. Head pastry chef Ludovic Chaussard presents a delightful range of rejigged classics, including the architectural citron sablé, the chouchou – a rap on the Paris-Brest – or a contemporary take on the éclair. Prices are very reasonable for the exceptional quality, at 3-4€ a piece.
