The unconventional chef from Brittany Thierry Breton has just opened his third address on the Rue De Belzunce in the 10th. After the more classic affairs Chez Michel and Chez Casimir comes La Pointe du Groin, a unique sort of gourmet sandwich bar serving incredibly cheap but delicious food, in a curious, barn-like setting. Open the note book and choose from a hand-scrawled menu of sandwiches (4€), hors d’oeuvres (aka tapas) (2€) and desserts (2€) (prices double at dinner). Try the chicken broth with croutons, or artichoke, asparagus, a plate of charcuterie for two (12€), or a chicken sandwich. Desserts range from strawberries and cream to apple and rhubarb crumble. Everything is freshly made with quality ingredients. Service is at the bar, and after you’ve ordered (and had your order shouted down to the team toiling at the open kitchen) and paid you take a seat at one of the communal tables. There’s a great wine list. And the bread is all baked on site.

    Great food and great atmosphere. Just a word of caution, this is a sandwich cum tapas bar so the portions are modest and therefore so actually it’s not that ‘incredibly cheap’. The other thing, that might seem a novalty but is very annoying, is that you need to change Euros into the bar’s local currency, which are Groins. And the minimum is 10 Euros. Probably a method employed by the owners to keep idle hands out of the till but a real pain.
